Miskin’s new chapter: From schoolhouse to community housing

Work has been completed on the former Miskin School, transforming it into 11 affordable homes for the community. Trivallis partnered with Cartrefi Limited to carry out the redevelopment. The historic building will soon welcome tenants, with move-ins starting on 16 December, following the official handover on 11 December.

This project was made possible thanks to the Social Housing Grant, supported by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council and the Welsh Government.

Trivallis purchased the building in November 2019 and carefully designed the redevelopment to provide high-quality homes while preserving the building’s unique character.

Neil Phillips, Construction Manager at Trivallis, shared his thoughts: “This project is about more than just housing; it’s about honouring the history of Miskin while meeting the needs of today. By retaining the school’s character, we’ve created something that blends the past and future beautifully.”

The school has been converted into 10 one-bedroom flats and one two-bedroom house, addressing a significant local need for one-bedroom properties. To ease parking concerns, 11 dedicated spaces have been added at the rear of the site.

This redevelopment follows Trivallis’ successful work in Llantrisant, where a derelict school was turned into 18 new homes. The Miskin project is another step in Trivallis’ mission to create affordable homes that uplift communities.
