Solar Success: Swn yr Afon tenants raking in the rays

At Swn yr Afon, tenants are seeing the benefits of solar power first-hand with lower bills, greener living, and a real buzz of excitement about making positive changes at home.

We recently caught up with tenants, Scheme Co-ordinators, and renewable energy experts GB Sol to hear how the installation of solar panels has made a difference. What started as a project to help reduce energy costs has sparked a wave of curiosity and confidence among tenants eager to make the most of renewable energy.

Debra, one of the tenants, described the impact as “marvellous.” Since the solar panels were installed, she’s noticed savings of between £6 and £9 a month on her electricity bills and she’s already adapting her daily habits to save even more.
“I’m doing things now like switching things off, using things more during the day, that I would sometimes do at night,” she said.

That small shift in thinking is spreading across the community. Tenants are becoming more mindful of their energy use, inspired by what they’ve learned about how the technology works and how simple changes can lead to real results.

Carol Cooper, our Senior Scheme Co-ordinator, said the technology was introduced in a friendly and approachable way to make sure tenants felt supported and informed. “One tenant has already seen their usual electricity bill drop by almost half,” Carol explained. “It’s been wonderful to see how everyone has embraced it.”

While there were some early nerves, the partnership between Trivallis and GB Sol made the process smooth and reassuring. The installation team’s approachable nature helped tenants feel comfortable asking questions and now, they’re even sharing their own energy-saving tips over morning coffee sessions.
