Cae Fardre Hub celebrates one year of community

This month marks one year since Cae Fardre Hub opened its doors. The community-led group was set up to give families and young people access to affordable activities and a welcoming place to connect. In just twelve months, the Hub has grown into a trusted space that makes a difference every week.

A safe and welcoming space

Cae Fardre Hub is open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. It has quickly become a safe place where families feel supported. From fun activities for young people to simple get-togethers over food, the Hub continues to reflect what the community wants and needs.

Michelle, who volunteers at the Hub, said: “The Hub has made such a difference. It is a safe space where young families can feel at home and supported.”

Practical support that matters

The Hub is about more than activities. Its food pantry has been a lifeline for many, offering everyday items at lower prices than retailers. One parent explained how much this meant in the early days with her baby: “I had just started using baby food pouches for my little boy. Being able to get them from the pantry instead of the shops really helped me at the time.”

Toasties Tuesdays and Chip Butties Fridays have also become part of weekly life. They give neighbours a chance to share a meal and enjoy some company without worrying about cost.

The difference Rise Strong made

Much of the Hub’s growth has been supported through the Rise Strong project, a Welsh Government programme designed to help children and families learn and connect. The funding gave the Hub extra resources to run affordable activities, introduce families to new sports and set up learning sessions such as cooking and crafts.

One year on and looking ahead

Over the past year, Cae Fardre Hub has become much more than a building. It is a place where people support each other and share experiences.

Michelle explained: “We recently supported a lady who had no household items and we were able to get donated items to help them settle and feel at home.”

Michelle and her hardworking volunteers have truly been having an impact in the past year. She added: “We’ve already started to prepare for winter with hot food like soups, so people will always have somewhere warm and friendly to come together.”

As the Hub celebrates its first year, its impact is only just the beginning. With more activities and support planned, the future looks bright for Cae Fardre and the people who call it home.
