Deb James, Senior Community Housing Officer shares about the Cynon Neighbourhood Network Meeting

20 May 2025

Just wanted to share a quick update from the Neighbourhood Network Meeting I went to earlier this month in Trecynon.

Find out what Deb James our Senior Community Housing Officer got up to at the Cynon Neighbourhood Network Meeting:

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share a quick update from the Neighbourhood Network Meeting I went to earlier this month in Trecynon. It was a lovely afternoon.

We met at the Harlequins Bowls and Community Club. It was great to catch up with people and hear about all the things happening in the area.

I did a Dementia Friend refresher session. It was a good reminder of how we can help people living with dementia.

We also heard from Shannon Lee from HDRC (Health Determinants Research Collaboration). She talked about how people with lived experience, local groups, and volunteers can get involved in health projects. It was really interesting.

Deann Rebane from Age Connects gave a talk too. She told us about the Digital Learning Café. It’s held every Thursday from 2–4 PM at Cynon Linc in Aberdare. It’s a place where people can get help with things like phones and laptops. They’re looking for volunteers, so let me know if you know anyone who might be interested.

At the end of the day, we had a go at playing bowls! I’m more used to propping up the bar there, so it was fun to try something new. I wasn’t very good, but it was a laugh.

Next month, the meeting is at Hirwaun YMCA. There’s going to be some gardening, which should be fun. I’m not sure what we’ll be doing yet, but I’m up for it.

There’s so much happening in our communities that we don’t always hear about. It’s been great to learn more. If you fancy coming along next time, just let me know and I’ll send you the invite.

Take care,
Deb
