VE Day 80 Highlights

9 May 2025

Check out just a few highlights from the VE Day 80 celebrations across our communities.

Across our communities, residents came together to mark 80 years since Victory in Europe with heartfelt tributes, stories, music, and moments of reflection. These are just some of many wonderful celebrations that took place—each one a testament to the strength, gratitude, and unity of our people.

In Maes y deri, a touching ceremony saw the unveiling of a beautifully crafted veterans bench, built by veterans themselves. Children from Oaklands Primary School played a key part in the event, which was made possible by the dedication of Mike Roach and the continued support of Trivallis. The day was rounded off with a delicious afternoon tea at Jubilee Road Coffee Shop, a much-loved local spot that warmly hosted the community.

Meanwhile, in Llantrisant, Cllr Sarah Jane Davies described a remarkable day filled with music, powerful storytelling, and the kind of community spirit that makes moments like these so special. Veterans and residents shared tales of courage and camaraderie, brought together by the efforts of Gareth and Jason Akers, Llantrisant Community Council, Ron Hook, and Trivallis.

There were also a series of fantastic events across our sheltered housing schemes, with many different schemes coming together to make the most of the occasion. Residents shared memories, enjoyed live entertainment, and connected with friends old and new—creating a vibrant and meaningful celebration for all involved.

We know these are just a few of the many inspiring events that took place to honour VE Day 80.

We’d love to hear from you
