Bringing the Welfare Hall back to life

7 March 2025

Meet the amazing people helping transform the Welfare Hall in Beddau

On Saturday, 01 March, community volunteers and Litter Free Beddau and Tynant joined forces to clear the back gardens of the Cwm and Llantwit Welfare Hall.

It was a bright and sunny St. David’s Day, and the team quickly cleared the mess that had built up over time. As they worked, volunteers shared memories of the hall and discussed its future.

For decades, the Welfare Hall—built and funded by local miners—has been at the heart of the community. From live shows and cinema screenings to social events and after-work drinks, it has played an important role in people’s lives.

Now, under the leadership of a new committee, there is an opportunity to restore this space and make it a place for everyone. The aim is to create a venue that meets the needs of local people and helps bring the community together again.

The 01 March cleanup was just the beginning. There is still work to do, and any help is appreciated. Whether you have skills in planning, finance, maintenance, fundraising, promotion, or simply lending a hand, your support would be valuable.

If you’re interested in getting involved, reach out through the committee’s Facebook page or contact Lisa Thomas at sec.cwmwelfare@outlook.com

The Welfare Hall has supported the community for years. Now, the community has a chance to support it and bring people closer together.
