Tonypandy regeneration works begin soon!

30 September 2024

We're excited to announce that Trivallis are moving forward with our regeneration work in Tonypandy.

We’re excited to announce that Trivallis are moving forward with our regeneration work in Tonypandy. This next step includes the demolition of Mitchell Court, the former Children’s Services Building, and the old Con Club site.

Our trusted contractor, Walters, will be carrying out the demolition and will provide regular updates as the work progresses. We plan to put up hoarding around the site on 14 October 2024, but if this date changes, we’ll keep you informed.

To ensure the safety of our community, temporary road and path closures will be in place from 30 September 2024 to 28 February 2025, or until the work is complete. The following areas will be affected:

· Mitchell Court access road (including the car park)

· The footway from the end of Zion Terrace to Mitchell Court

But don’t worry – there will be a clearly marked alternative route for pedestrians via Court Street, Berw Road, and Zion Terrace. Signage will be available to guide you through the temporary changes. Please see map below.

The map shows nearby roads, buildings, and a bus station. The key indicates closed highways and alternative routes.

While we develop exciting new plans for these spaces, we would love to hear from you. If you have any stories, memories, or old photos of these sites, please share them with us! Your stories could help shape the artwork and storytelling that will appear on the hoardings surrounding the construction area.

Send your contributions or any queries to Dart@trivallis.co.uk, and let’s celebrate the history of these places together!

Keep an eye out for updates from Walters on demolition progress. In the meantime you can also check out our FAQ’S below.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to create something new and wonderful for our community.

FAQs

Why are the buildings being demolished?

The buildings are in very poor condition and don’t fit with our plans to improve the area. We want to create spaces that are safe, modern, and great for the community. The old Con Club site, the former Children’s Services Building, and Mitchell Court will all be taken down by our contractor, Walters. They’ll provide updates as the work progresses.

What happened to the residents?

We’ve worked closely with all residents to help them find new homes that suit their needs.

What are the future plans for the site?

We’re currently working with our design team to come up with plans. Once these are ready, we’ll ask for your feedback and hold a public consultation to share our ideas.

How will the work affect the surrounding area?

For safety reasons, the following areas will be closed from 30th September 2024 to 28th February 2025, or until the work is done:

  • The access road to Mitchell Court (including the car park)
  • The footpath from Zion Terrace to Mitchell Court

There will be a pedestrian detour through Court Street, Berw Road, and Zion Terrace. Signs will be in place to guide everyone.

Will the closed path reopen, and will there be improvements?

The future of the path is still being decided.

Can I use the alternative path if I have mobility issues?

Yes, the alternative route has been approved, and signs will help direct everyone safely.

How long will the demolition take?

We expect the demolition to take about 12 weeks. Walters will share more information closer to the start, and we’ll send out a newsletter with important details like contact info and working hours.

Will traffic be affected?

There are no road closures planned that will affect local traffic, but if that changes, we’ll keep everyone informed.

Who can I contact with questions?

You can email us at Dart@trivallis.co.uk.

Is there asbestos or other dangerous materials?

All asbestos was safely removed by experts before demolition. The buildings have been properly prepared to ensure everything is safe.

Will the site be secure?

Yes, the site will be monitored 24/7 by VPS. We’ve also added extra security measures to reduce the chance of trespassing or anti-social behaviour during the work.
