A World Without Limits: Brian and Pat’s Story Inspires Community for Disability Pride Month

7 July 2026

A remarkable love story that defies expectations is inspiring communities this Disability Pride Month, as residents gather in Mountain Ash to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of Brian Chick and his late wife, Pat; a couple whose life together is a powerful testament to courage, adventure and the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to live life to the fullest.

Residents, tenants, colleagues and community partners are coming together at the YMCA on Dyffryn Road today (1 July) to mark the start of Disability Pride Month through the powerful story of Brian and Pat Chick – a couple whose love, determination and sense of adventure took them far beyond the expectations placed upon them.

At the heart of the event is a screening of Mr Chick, a film produced by Trivallis that tells the couple’s remarkable story. Living with cerebral palsy, Pat refused to let her disability limit her ambitions. Together with Brian, she builds a full and meaningful life in Mountain Ash before the pair go on to travel the world, visiting countries across the globe and embracing experiences many believed would never be possible.

Their journey is one of resilience, determination and unwavering belief in each other. It perfectly reflects the spirit of Disability Pride Month, celebrating disabled people’s achievements while challenging outdated stereotypes and demonstrating that disability should never be a barrier to living a rich, fulfilling life.

Guests are welcomed with refreshments before the screening, creating an inclusive and relaxed space where conversations happen naturally. Following the film, attendees share reflections and personal experiences, celebrating the importance of representation, belonging and the power of hearing authentic lived experiences.

The event reinforces Trivallis’ belief that belonging starts at home. By bringing people together to celebrate real stories from within its communities, the organisation continues to create opportunities for connection, understanding and inclusion.

Leanne Ball, Tenancy Sustainability Officer at Trivallis says:

“When Brian told me about his story and the book he’d written about Pat’s life, I just knew we had to try and help him share that with the world. He and Pat are much loved by everyone in the area and we’re all just so inspired by what they achieved together.”

Kathryn James, Marketing, Communications & Events Officer, Cerebral Palsy Cymru, says:

“Brian and Pat’s story is a true inspiration. It shows that cerebral palsy does not define a person or limit what they can achieve, something we at Cerebral Palsy Cymru are passionate about. We are proud to support children, young people and their families across Wales, helping every child and young person with cerebral palsy have the best possible start and the brightest future.”

A community member commenting on the invite to the event said;

“Lovely couple and an amazing husband. It was clear how much love they had for each other.”

Brian and Pat’s story serves as a lasting reminder that disability does not define a person’s potential. Instead, their legacy is one of courage, love and adventure; a couple who refuse to accept the limits others place upon them and, in doing so, inspire others to see possibility instead of barriers.

As Disability Pride Month begins, their story stands as a powerful celebration of everything the month represents: pride, equality, inclusion and the right for every disabled person to live life without limits.
