It’s a bright Wednesday morning in Cowbridge. Around twenty men – and a couple of four-legged companions – are gathered for the Yellow Morgannwg Walk, a six-mile journey through the local countryside. But this isn’t just about exercise – it’s about connection.

“We’re just a bunch of great guys,” says Jeremy Sims, Program Manager for the Marauders. “We walk, we talk, and we look out for each other.”

Founded to promote men’s physical and mental wellbeing, the Marauders host free weekly walks and social activities, including Monday’s Torfaen Walk and Thursday’s relaxed Brew with a View meetup.

“It’s more than just walking,” says long-time member Ed Jennings. “It gets you out of the house. We grab a coffee, a bacon roll, and just chat. Even if it’s raining, you still want to come.”

Newer member Jeff adds: “The name ‘Marauders’ caught my attention – made me think of Vikings! But really, it’s a group of men who walk, talk, and share. It’s a laugh, and it’s healing.”

Marauders Men’s Health reminds us that small, simple actions – like walking and talking – can have a big impact. As we mark Mental Health Awareness Week, they offer a brilliant example of how grassroots groups can open up vital conversations and support networks.
