Autumn Tales: Share Your Story Through Our Poetry Competition

1 October 2024

We’re excited to announce our Autumn Poetry Competition, where tenants from all walks of life are invited to showcase their talent, thoughts, and experiences.

Autumn is a time of change, and we believe everyone has a story to tell. Whether it’s the rustle of fallen leaves or the crisp chill in the air, this season brings moments of reflection and inspiration. Now it’s your chance to share your story—through poetry!

We’re excited to announce our Autumn Poetry Competition, where tenants from all walks of life are invited to showcase their talent, thoughts, and experiences. You don’t need to be a professional writer, and you don’t need fancy words—all you need is your voice.

Why Enter?

This competition is about giving everyone a chance to be heard. We know that in our communities, there are so many untold stories, and this is the perfect opportunity to get your writing out there, whether you’re new to poetry or have been writing for years.

We want to hear your unique voice, your life experiences, and your view of the world. Whether you’re 8 or 80, this is a chance to shine, and maybe even discover a hidden talent you never knew you had!

Age Categories:

To make sure it’s fair for everyone, we’ve split the competition into three age groups:

  • 8–12 years: For our young poets, bursting with imagination.
  • 13–17 years: For teens ready to express themselves.
  • 18+ years: For adults of all ages, whether you’re writing for the first time or have stories to share.

How to Get Started: Writing About Autumn

Not sure how to begin? Here’s how you can start:

  1. Think about where you live: What do you see around you during autumn? How do the streets, parks, and spaces in your community change with the season?
  2. Express your feelings: Autumn can feel like a time of change. What’s changing in your life? How do you feel about it?
  3. Use simple language: You don’t need fancy words to create powerful poetry. Be real, be honest—that’s what makes a poem special.
  4. Write from the heart: Your poem is your story. Whether it’s happy, sad, hopeful, or reflective, there’s no right or wrong way to write.

How to Enter:

  • Write your poem about autumn—whatever that means to you.
  • Send your poem along with your name, contact details, and age category (8–12, 13–17, or 18+) to comms@trivallis.co.uk with the subject line: ‘Autumn Poem’.
  • Deadline for entries: 5pm, 31 October 2024. The competition opens at 10am on 1 October 2024.

What Could You Win?

This competition is all about getting your work recognised:

  • Your poem could be featured on our website, where the whole community can read it!
  • There are £50, £30, and £15 shopping vouchers for the top three entries in each age category.
  • If we get enough submissions, we may even create a poetry collection that features your work alongside other winners—giving your words a place in print for everyone to see!

Ready to Write?

Whether you’ve written before or this is your first time, we can’t wait to see what you come up with. This is your chance to be heard, to get creative, and to inspire others.
