Caring for the environment 

Communities that take care of their outdoor spaces with gardens, recycling, litter picking, and other green activities. This helps the environment and builds community pride.

Aberdare, Abernant, Aberaman, Cwmaman

This community has transformed neglected, litter-filled spaces into beautiful, green areas through gardening, litter picking, and recycling. In areas like Maes y Deri and Heol y Mynedd, local people have inspired other residents to join these efforts, resulting in a cleaner environment, stronger community pride, and lasting positive initiatives that benefit everyone. Together they’re committed to preserving and enhancing outdoor spaces.

Cwmbach

TTEG, Cwmbach Community Association and Pant Y Cerdin residents amongst others have shown tireless dedication to environmental care. Through woodland walks, litter picking, and green activities involving all ages, they’ve enhanced local spaces in Cwmbach, fostered community pride, and contributed to a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone.

Penywaun, Llwydcoed

The communities of Penywaun and Llwydcoed are dedicated to maintaining green spaces, like "Ted’s Field," which local resident Ted and others care for with great dedication. Other local organisations such as Cana Centre, Oasis Church and the Community centre also play their part in looking after local green spaces and protecting the environment.

Community hub 

Communities with a lively community centre that brings people together and offers important services and activities.

Blaencwm, Blaenrhondda, Cwmparc, Ton Pentre, Treherbert, Treorchy, Ynyswen

This area is home to the communities of Treherbert and Treorchy, with their thriving high streets, as well as vibrant community hubs like Cwmparc and Ton Pentre. These centres offer vital services and activities, from choir groups and boys/girls clubs to libraries and social enterprises, bringing people together and enriching local life, with strong community bonds and support.

Rhydyfelin, Hawthorn

Rhydyfelin’s thriving network of small community hubs offer vital services like a food pantry, peer support, Dementia care, and more. Run by dedicated volunteers, these hubs bring people together for activities and support. Their efforts build a strong, connected community, making Rhydyfelin deserving of recognition for fostering unity and well-being.

Tonyrefail

Tonyrefail's vibrant community centres, like Yr Efail, Ar Ben Y Byd, Capel Farm and New Life Church, unite people through diverse activities and services. From free breakfast clubs to social gatherings, they offer warm, inclusive spaces where residents can connect, relax, and access vital support, building a strong, supportive community spirit.

Llantrisant, Talbot Green, Llanharan

This area is home to Llanharan Drop-In Centre which hosts inclusive events for all ages, offering dementia support for seniors, activities for children of all abilities, and essential services like a food pantry and food bank. Their welcoming environment ensures that everyone, especially those who may feel left out, can participate and feel supported.

Penrhiwfer, Penygraig, Clydach, Tonypandy

The Penrhiwfer, Tonypandy, Penygraig, and Clydach area has a wealth of community groups hosting inclusive events and activities for all ages and backgrounds. From youth clubs to knitting and lunch groups, and support for new mothers, they provide safe, welcoming spaces for support, friendship, and connection.

Perthcelyn, Ynysboeth, Abercynon

The communities of Perthcelyn, Ynysboeth, and Abercynon provide inclusive activities and services for all ages and backgrounds. Home to groups such as ASD Rainbows, which supports families and young people with autism, and Bryncynon Strategy which welcomes volunteers from all walks of life, their commitment to diversity ensures everyone feels welcomed and included in community life.

Beddau, Gilfach Goch, Tynant

The communities of Beddau, Gilfach Goch, and Tynant, home to Gilfach Goch Community Centre, exemplify strong, caring neighbourhoods by supporting each other through garden projects, youth clubs, and mutual aid during hardships. Cardiff Bay

During tough times caused by major renovation works to Cardiff Bay homes, tenants have shown remarkable support for one another. Trebanog, Bedw, Cymmer, Porth

Trebanog Community Centre and Trebanog TRA work closely with locals and partners to foster a strong, connected neighbourhood ‘in the clouds’, ensuring everyone feels supported and included.

Communities that effectively partner with other services, like the police, credit unions, job clubs, food banks, schools, or churches, to ensure residents get the support they need.

Church Village

Ty Pentre Eglwys excels in partnering with local organisations like PCSOs, community councillors, and adult education services. Their collaborative efforts have established a new community group providing essential support and strengthening the neighbourhood of Cae Fardre, ensuring residents have access to the services they need for a better quality of life.

Rhigos, Hirwaun, Penderyn

Community activists in Penderyn, Rhigos, and Hirwaun demonstrate exceptional collaboration by partnering with local organisations, charities, schools, and other groups. These communities work together to provide vital support, ensuring residents have access to services like job clubs, food banks, and learning opportunities, fostering a unified and well-supported environment for all.

Penrhys

Over many years, Penrhys has built strong partnerships with organisations like the National Dance Company of Wales, Arts Council of Wales, Valleys Kids, Tempo Time Credits, Digital Communities Wales, RCTCBC and Citrus Arts. These collaborations enhance community well-being by providing resources and opportunities that uplift the village, making it a model for effective community partnerships.

Fernhill, Mountain Ash, Cefnpennar

From clean-ups to youth clubs and art projects, they empower young people to positively impact their community and build valuable skills.

Glyncoch, Ynysybwl,Nantgarw, Taffs Well

Organisations such as Glyncoch Community Centre inspire young people through activities like games nights, clean-ups, trips, and youth programmes. Pen Dinas, Ystrad, Llwynypia, Trealaw, Ynyshir

The community brings young people together through volunteer-led drop-in sessions, boys and girls clubs, and a variety of youth and family activities. These initiatives helps young people connect with older people in the area and each other, supporting their wellbeing and fostering a sense of responsibility and pride.
