Exciting progress for Penrhys

10 November 2025

Two big steps have been taken this week in the Penrhys regeneration project.

The planning application for the first 123 homes has now been submitted to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council. This follows months of work by an expert team and input from local residents and stakeholders, who helped shape plans for homes, gardens, roads, footpaths, wildlife, green spaces and play areas. A public consultation was held in October, with useful feedback from various public bodies. The team now awaits the Council’s decision and hopes to start building next year.

At the same time, the search for a developer has moved forward. Building firms are now being invited to submit detailed proposals. The team will choose a builder who can deliver high-quality work at a fair price and in a way that suits Penrhys.

Most of the new homes will be sold privately, and the estate is being designed with young families from the Valleys in mind. Some homes will be for social housing, allocated to people already living in Penrhys.

Local residents are encouraged to stay involved and share their views – every voice matters.
