From Cleaner to Coordinator and Beyond

When Ellesha and Katy, joined around two years ago, they were joining the Sheltered Scheme team as a Scheme Coordinator and Relief Scheme Cleaner. But with the right support, and guidance, they have both progressed in their careers within Trivallis.

At Trivallis, career progression is something we love to see. When Ellesha and Katy, joined around two years ago, they were joining the Sheltered Scheme team as a Scheme Coordinator and Relief Scheme Cleaner. But with the right support, and guidance, they have both progressed in their careers within Trivallis.

When Ellesha first joined as a Scheme Coordinator, she came from a background of care work but had very little knowledge of housing.

That wasn’t an issue, as with the support of Senior Scheme Coordinator, Carol, and the wider team, she learnt everything she needed to know for her role.

Scheme Coordinators are central to running the day-to-day of sheltered housing schemes. They blend housing and health & safety management with welfare support, community-building, and safeguarding. This is very similar to a Community Housing Officer, but with more responsibilities added in.

When the opportunity came, Ellesha applied to become a Community Housing Officer and was successful.

Ellesha explained: “My manager, Carol encouraged me to go for it. Once I read the job application, I thought it would be a good challenge, so went for it and now I’m loving it.”

Since being in her role, she has thrived and has settled in nicely.

Angelina, Senior Community Housing Officer at Trivallis who manages Ellesha said: “Ellesha has settled in nicely to her new role. She is so knowledgeable and has been supporting other Community Housing Officers in their roles.”

With Ellesha moving into her new role, that created a vacancy for a Scheme Coordinator. This is where Katy joins the story.

When Katy joined a few years ago, she had only ever worked in casual jobs but came to interview for a Relief Scheme Cleaner. In her interview, her caring personality shone through, and she was successful.

Soon a Scheme Cleaner role became available, and Katy was successful in progressing onto this role.

Samantha, Senior Scheme Coordinator supported Katy in her cleaning role and worked hard to build up Katy’s confidence. With Sam’s assistance, Katy began looking into the cleaning orders and demonstrating other skills that she had including her digital skills, and record keeping.

It wasn’t long before it was clear that Katy had the skills to progress. Where she recognised, she had built up such good connections with tenants and was helping much more than just cleaning the schemes.

Sam felt that Katy was ready to progress and when the opportunity came, Katy applied for the Scheme Coordinator role and was successful.

Katy said: “I’ve progressed so much in the short amount of time that I’ve been here. I love being a part of the Sheltered Team, everyone is so supportive. There’s no two days the same, but that’s what I love and what keeps the role exciting.”

Tenants at the scheme love Katy, and her caring side always shines through.

Samantha expressed: “Katy’s confidence has grown over the years; with each role she has held in Sheltered. It worked out great timing, as when Katy started to believe in herself like we did, a part time role became available, and she was successful.”

“I’ve worked in Sheltered for a number of years, and have loved having similar opportunities like Katy has, to progress in Trivallis.”

Christine, Sheltered and Supported Housing Manager explained: “Anyone that’s lucky enough to be part of the Sheltered Scheme Team are actively encouraged to build on their skills, and look for progression in the business if they want to.”
